DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at our distinguished engineering college is focused on providing a comprehensive education that combines engineering principles with medical sciences. Our aim is to develop expertise and skills that can tackle critical healthcare challenges through outstanding teaching and innovative research.

Our department provides a dynamic learning environment that integrates theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, equipping students to succeed in biomedical engineering and make significant contributions to the advancement of medical care and technology.

VISION

To emerge as a centre of excellence in Biomedical Engineering, nurturing technically skilled, ethically committed, and innovation-driven engineers who advance healthcare and contribute to the well-being of society, guided by the Invest in Yourself (IIY).

MISSION

  • M1 Education To impart quality education in Biomedical Engineering through the IIY technique, equipping students with strong fundamentals, clinical skills, and professional values to excel in healthcare and allied fields.
  • M2 Research To nurture graduates with the ability to analyse, design, and develop innovative solutions in areas of medical imaging, bio-instrumentation, medical devices, and rehabilitation engineering.
  • M3 Ethics & Healthcare To develop graduates who adapt to multi-disciplinary healthcare environments, pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, and uphold ethical standards in the practice of biomedical engineering.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

  • To enable the graduates to demonstrate their skills in design and develop medical devices for health care system through the core foundation and knowledge acquired in engineering and biology.
  • To enable the graduates to exhibit leadership in health care team to solve health care problems and make decisions with societal and ethical responsibilities.
  • To Carryout multidisciplinary research, addressing human healthcare problems and sustain technical competence with ethics, safety and standards.
  • To ensure that graduates will recognize the need for sustaining and expanding their technical competence and engage in learning opportunities throughout their careers.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of Mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments
  • Life-long Learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

  • To design and develop diagnostic and therapeutic devices that reduces physician burnout and enhance the quality of life for the end user by applying fundamentals of Biomedical Engineering.
  • To apply software skills in developing algorithms for solving healthcare related problems in various fields of Medical sector.
  • To adapt to emerging information and communication technologies (ICT) to innovate ideas and solutions for current societal and scientific issues thereby developing indigenous medical instruments that are on par with the existing technology
