Objectives of the Practice:
- To create a life - long learning platform for Faculty members and students through IIY.
- To acquire knowledge in emerging technologies.
- To support individuals in developing professional and employability skills.
- To create an ecosystem for innovation, research, product development and startups.
Students Innovation Club (SIC)
Objectives of the Practice:
- Facilitate creative thinking and innovation, converting ideas into projects using the latest technologies
- Foster an innovation ecosystem, encouraging interdisciplinary projects and competition participation.
- Promote student participation in hackathons, coding contests, business case competitions, conferences, and project contests.
The Context:
- Inspired by our Chairman, Mr. CK Ranganathan, who advocates for entrepreneurship, SIC nurtures a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
- SIC addresses societal needs by providing a platform for students to solve real-world problems, prioritizing upskilling and reskilling to meet emerging technology demands.
- The club fosters industry-academia collaboration for practical experience and insights, while participation in external competitions enhances students' skills and problem-solving abilities.
The Practice:
- Identification of Student Interests: Identifies students’ interests in innovation, entrepreneurship, and multidisciplinary domains.
- Formation of Teams: Groups students based on interests like IoT, Electric Vehicles, Drone Technology, Additive Manufacturing, Robotics, AI, Data Science, and Green Energy, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Industry-Academia Collaboration and Skills Development: Facilitates workshops, seminars, guest lectures, and industry visits, while conducting assessments to create personalized upskilling plans with AICTE support.
- Project Identification, Planning, and Proto Model Development: Organizes internal hackathons and ideathons, providing seed money and mentorship to develop innovative projects aligned with industry and societal needs.
- Sustainable Growth and Impact: Engages alumni, shares knowledge, and forms strategic partnerships for long-term impact.
Evidence of Success:
- Students have achieved national recognition in paper and project presentations, competitions, and hackathons like Smart India Hackathon and Toycathon.
- The club has mentored students to secure project grants from TNSCST, with 14 projects receiving a total grant of Rs. 1,05,000.
- Over five years, 2597 students have participated in various events, winning over 350 prizes, showcasing their dedication and skill development.
Consistent accolades underscore the club's effectiveness in fostering a conducive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
